Title 24 Compliance

What is Title 24?

Title 24 is the California Building Code (CBC) of regulations governing all aspects of building construction.  Energy Efficiency Standards (EES) mandating measures in new constructions are included in Part 6 of the CBC.

Since being first established in 1977 the Buildings Energy Efficiency Standards (along with standards in appliances) have helped California save more than $11 Billion in electricity and natural gas costs.  The standards are updated every three years to allow new energy efficiency technologies to be considered. The current standards was enforced in 1998.

With the recent increase in energy costs it became imperative that the authorities would  tighten the code in order to meet the challenge.  Therefore, California Energy Commission (CEC) had revised  the standards in 2005 to about 15-20% tighter than the current code, raising T-24 compliance threshold and increasing the importance of Value Engineering for more energy efficient envelopes and mechanical equipment.  Starting October 1, 2005, the new standards shall be enforced .  Both Residential and Non-Residential projects will be impacted.
